Wild Atlantic Sports - Courtmac Bay Tour
A flat full day cycle that takes in Timoleague Abbey, Courtmacsherry Bay and starts in Ballinspittle only 15 mins drive from Kinsale.
This is a great cycle combining flat, quiet roads with great rural and costal scenery. The route follows the curve of Courtmacsherry Bay, with some great stop-offs along the way. First off is the long sandy beach of Coolmaine, then, further along the road, the town of Timoleague. Here you cycle past the ruins of Timoleague Abbey, built in the 13th century. Great time for a water stop and a few photos!
Pedal on to Courtmacsherry along the route of the old railway line. Stop for a coffee and ice cream at the Golden Pheasant Café - we love this spot! It's a quirky, local café, with an aviary in the garden which houses a collection of beautiful owls. After 'oh-ing' over the owls, have lunch on one of the outdoor tables in the quiet courtyard. There's always room for some delicious ice cream, Mauds, made in Northern Ireland or a homemade bowl of soup. What more could you want?
Throughout the cycle, there are opportunities to bird watch and enjoy the coast and farmland scenery. In the summer, wild flowers abound - fuchsia and montbretia add colour to this amazing cycle.
