Before you begin to explore our city, why not come on a walking tour with us, and experience Galway with one of the locals. Familiarise yourself with our famous Eyre Square and our quaint lanes. Learn why the Galway is called the “City of the Tribes”. Hear about its historic monuments, buildings, and the colourful characters of the past.
Who are we?
We are all members of the Galway Tour Guides Association, a group of professional, Failte Ireland approved guides and we are all locals. With a wealth of guiding experience between us, we can offer an informative and entertaining tour of our city.
What will you see?
Our tour of 90 minutes, or so, takes in the following:
Eyre Square and its monuments
Parts of the Old City Wall
The Lynch Stone
Nora Barnacle’s House
St. Nicholas Collegiate Church
The Claddagh Museum
The Spanish Arch
What will you hear?
You will hear the story of why Mayor James Lynch Fitzstephen hanged his son for murder and the story of the famous Claddagh ring and much more. And should you need suggestions for restaurants and shopping, we can help you with that too.
