Gallivanting Tours: Artisan Craft and Food Tour
Artisan Craft and Food Tour
This tour takes place high in the hills that create the Wicklow/Wexford border. Relax and sit back in our air conditioned VW Caravelles as we take a beautiful scenic drive that stops in three small villages. The first is the original Avoca Woollen Mills, this iconic brand hast its roots here in this 200 year old wool mill which has been in continuous operation since it was built. Guests can visit the factory floor and see up close how the famous fabrics are woven and dyed. Plenty of time is allocated for visiting the on site shop, where they can purchase anything from a pair of socks to a full country gents outfit. Following on to the picturesque village of Tinahely, we visit The Farm Shop, a real hub for local artists, food makers and craft designers. On site is also a wonderful restaurant specialising in farm produced foods, fresh bread and scones and traditionally made cheeses, jams and chutneys. You can stretch your legs and take in the farm itself or simply relax by the Aga or out in the sunshine. After lunch the tour moves on to the small village of Shillelagh to meet Liam O’Caidlha a master Shillelagh maker following in the footsteps of his Great Grandfather and those that came before him. Here guests will learn the fascinating history behind the stick and can get the opportunity to purchase their own, measured and weighted just for them.
If time allows the tour finishes in the nearby market Town of Gorey, famed for its selection of womens clothing boutiques or if the guest prefers, the chance to sample some of Wexfords Craft beers and Gins.
